Update on the Spalding to Pinchbeck Active Travel Improvements project, which is now underway on site.
Spalding Active Travel Scheme – advance notification of road improvements
Lincolnshire County Council has provided an update on the Spalding to Pinchbeck Active Travel Improvements project, which is now underway on site. The information below sets out the current project phasing, expected timescales, traffic management arrangements and diversion routes. Please note that all dates are subject to change throughout the project.
Daytime works
Phase 1 – West Elloe Avenue to King’s Road
Expected timing:
- mid-June to early September
Traffic management:
- One-way system northbound.
- National Grid will be working within the lane closure during west side works.
- Diversion route: West Elloe Avenue / Holbeach Road / A16 / A1157 / A15 / A151 / Winsover Road / Bond Street Court / King’s Road.
Phase 2 – West Elloe Avenue to Park Road
Expected timing:
- late July to early September
Traffic management:
- Multi-way temporary traffic signals.
- Park Road will be closed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, due to its proximity to the level crossing.
- Diversion route: Pinchbeck Road / King’s Road / Bond Street Court / Winsover Road / Park Road, and vice versa.
Phase 3 – Park Road to Woolram Wygate
Expected timing:
- early September to late October
Traffic management:
- Multi-way temporary traffic signals on Pinchbeck Road.
- Woolram Wygate will be closed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, due to its proximity to the level crossing.
- Cadent Gas will be working within the closure. Diversion route: Park Road / Park Close / Woolram Wygate, and vice versa.
Phase 4 – Hospital Road to Woolram Wygate
Expected timing:
- early September to early December
Traffic management:
- One-way system northbound.
- Access to the hospital from the north will be maintained.
- Diversion route: Pinchbeck Road / Spalding Road / Wardentree Lane / A16 / Holbeach Road / West Elloe Avenue.
Phase 5 – Hospital Road junction
Expected timing:
- late October to mid-December
Traffic management:
- Multi-way temporary traffic signals.
- Access to the hospital from the north will be maintained, with signals controlled to prioritise emergency vehicles and vehicles looking to enter the hospital.
Night-time works
Phase A – King’s Road to West Elloe Avenue closure
Expected timing:
- late September to early October
Traffic management:
- Diversion route: West Elloe Avenue / Holbeach Road / A16 / A1157 / A15 / A151 / Winsover Road / Bond Street Court / King’s Road, and vice versa.
Phase B – West Elloe Avenue to Woolram Wygate
Expected timing:
- early October to mid-October
Traffic management:
- Diversion route: Pinchbeck Road / Spalding Road / Wardentree Lane / A16 / A1157 / A15 / A151 / Winsover Road / Bond Street Court / King’s Road, and vice versa.
Phase C – Woolram Wygate to Fern Drive
Expected timing:
- late November to early December
Traffic management:
Diversion route: Pinchbeck Road / Spalding Road / Wardentree Lane / A16 / Holbeach Road / West Elloe Avenue, and vice versa.
Phase D – Fern Drive to Hospital Road
Expected timing:
- early December to mid-December
Traffic management:
- Diversion route: Spalding Road / Wardentree Lane / A16 / Holbeach Road / West Elloe Avenue, and vice versa.
Phase E – Hospital Road to Enterprise Way
Expected timing:
- mid-December
Traffic management:
- Diversion route: Spalding Road / Wardentree Lane / A16 / Holbeach Road / West Elloe Avenue, and vice versa.
- Advance warning signs will be displayed two weeks before closures take place.
Additional notes
- The works include carriageway reconstruction.
- Noisy operations will take place Monday to Friday, between 6.00pm and 11.30pm.
- To allow materials to cool, traffic management will often be left in place until 5.30am.
- All road resurfacing will be undertaken under road closures.
- Night-time phases are concurrent with daytime phases.
